February is the month dedicated to Valentine’s Day, and it’s a great time to think about your marriage or consider a future marriage relationship if you’re single. Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott’s SYMBIS assessment is an excellent tool for couples moving toward marriage. In fact, I require it as part of my pre-marital counseling. I’ve found the assessment provides excellent insight into how couples approach the marriage relationship. It creates important dialogue between couples that is very useful for building great communication habits.
Pre-marital counseling effectively reduces a couple’s likelihood for divorce. Consequently, the time and money to take the assessment is worth it. It really doesn’t take that long to complete the assessment, and in some situations (e.g. military pre-marital counseling settings), couples can take the assessment and receive the results absolutely free. SYMBIS facilitators (marriage counselors) can and should go over the assessment with couples.
If you have friends or family members headed toward a marriage, please tell them about SYMBIS. It’s a great resource that can help couples build a solid foundation leading to many years of marital bliss.
